September 2023 Meeting Minutes

The Widows’ and Orphans’ Aid Association of the San Francisco Police Department held their monthly meeting via Zoom technology on Tuesday September 12, 2023 at 1130 hours.

Roll Call: President Lou Barberini, Treasurer Dean Taylor, Trustees Leroy Lindo, Ray Kane, and Rob Forneris, and Administrative Assistant Sally Foster were present. Vice President Ryan Walsh, Secretary Mark McDonough, and Trustees Maureen Leonard and Jim O’Meara were excused.
Approval of the Minutes:
Trustee Ray Kane made a motion to accept last month’s minutes (August 2023). Trustee Rob Forneris seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Receiving Applications, Suspensions, and Reinstatements:
Trustee Ray Kane presented our membership to the 279th Academy Class of the San Francisco Police Department. Ray signed up 100% of the class members. All 6 members of the 279th class applied for membership and were accepted by the Board as temporary members. The new signees are temporary members of the WOAA pending their successful transition from being on Department probation to being a full-time member of the San Francisco Police Department. They become permanent members of the Department and the WOAA simultaneously. There were no new suspensions. Trustee Rob Forneris made a motion to reinstate dropped member Richard O’Reilly who paid his back dues and fines and submitted a Doctor’s document stating he is in good health. Vice President Ryan Walsh joined the meeting late and seconded the motion. The motion passed. Welcome back Rich O’Reilly.  We have 2 dropped members who have sent their back dues and fines and are waiting for a Doctor’s appointment.
Communications and Bills:
Treasurer Dean Taylor read aloud the monthly bills and the beneficiary claims for fallen members Charles Sandoval, Kelly Waterfield, and Jerry Zachoratos. Trustee Ray Kane made a motion to pay the bills and claims. Trustee Rob Forneris seconded the motion. The motion passed.

The WOAA Board received the sad news of the passing of one of our members:
Ray Koenig, age 86: Ray Koenig entered the San Francisco Police Department on January 3, 1964, and retired 47 years later with a Disability Pension on July 11, 2011. Ray was assigned to Star #265 and worked the following assignments during his long career: Richmond Police Station (March 30, 1964), Northern Police Station (March 15, 1965), Taraval Police Station (September 12, 1966), Company K Solo (June 5, 1988), Air Marine Support Unit (June 29, 1996), Company K Solo (January 9, 1999), Southern Police Station (January 9, 2010. Ray retired on July 11, 2011,

President Lou Barberini led the Board in a moment of silence for all our passed members including recently passed member Ray Koenig. President Barberini adjourned the meeting and scheduled our next meeting for Tuesday October 10, 2023 at 1130 hours via Zoom technology.
