The Widows’
and Orphans’ Aid Association of the San Francisco Police Department held their
monthly meeting via Zoom Technology on Tuesday September 8, 2020, at 1230
hours.Roll Call: President Jim O’Meara, Vice President Al Luenow,
Secretary Mark McDonough, Treasurer Dean Taylor, Trustees Ryan Walsh, Louis
Barberini, Leroy Lindo, and Ray Kane, and Administrative Assistant Sally Foster
were present. Trustee Rob Forneris was excused.
Approval of the Minutes: Trustee Lou Barberini made a motion to accept the
August 2020 WOAA minutes. Trustee Ryan Walsh seconded the motion. The motion
passed.
Receiving Applications; Suspensions and Reinstatements: There were no new
Applications or Suspensions. I sent certified mail to the list of 49 dropped
members that appeared last month. Dropped members must apply for reinstatement.
Reinstatement requires that all dues and fines be paid in full, and a letter of
good health by a physician be submitted to the Board. Our Constitution and
By-Laws amendments changed the reinstatement policy to a limit of 2 years for
reinstatement application.
Communications and Bills: Trustee Lou Barberini made a motion to pay the monthly
bills and the beneficiary claim for deceased member James Barron. Trustee Ryan
Walsh seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Report of Visiting Committee: Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, no memorial
services will be attended until the state restrictions are lifted.
Report of Trustee: We received the sad new of the passing of one of our
members:
James T. Brown, age 78: James Terry Brown was born on July 9, 1942, in
Lakeview, Oregon. Jim joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. Jim was honorably
discharged and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area shortly thereafter. Soon
thereafter Jim joined the San Francisco Police Department. Jim entered the San Francisco Police
Department on February 16, 1966. Jim graduated from the Police Academy on May
2, 1966 and was assigned to Star #969. Jim worked the following assignments
during his 30- year career: Southern Police Station (May 2, 1966), Ingleside
Police Station (December 1, 1967), Co. K. (September 5, 1973), Crime Specific
Task Force (CSTF) (January 25, 1976), Potrero Police Station (July 1, 1976),
Co.K Solo (August 30, 1978), Southern Police Station (promoted to Q-50 Sergeant
of Police May 7, 1980), Co. K P/TC (March 8, 1986), Park Police Station (July
21, 1990), Southern Police Station (March 30, 1991), Co.K Solo (November 6,
1993). Jim retired with a service pension on January 26, 1996. Jim is survived
by his daughters Meghan (Ross) and Lauren (Anthony) and grandchildren Avynn,
Brooklyn, and Nash who meant the world to him. Jim enjoyed spending time with
family and friends, playing golf, going for walks, and watching British
mysteries.

Adjournment: President O’Meara led our Board in a moment of silence for all
our fallen members. President O’Meara scheduled our next meeting for Tuesday
October 13, 2020, at 1200 hours. The WOAA meetings will continue on Zoom
Technology until further notice due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Administrator of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, Paul Chignell,
retired San Francisco Police Lieutenant and the current host of the Gold

and the long-standing editor of the SFPOA Journal, Ray Shine, Risa Tom of the
San Francisco Police Commissioner’s Office, David Ng of Personnel, and to the
entire Traffic Solo Command and Officers who graciously provide us space for
our files and our meetings.
